All week long, I’ve been saying, “this is the greatest week in the history of the world,” to whoever would listen.
“I didn’t even know it was Easter week.”
“Not even close!”
“What are you talking about?”
These are some of the responses I received.
Of course, they didn’t connect to Easter until I brought it up, which shows the disconnect between Christ-followers and the world.
I fully expected one of my golfer friends to say, “the Masters is next week.”
How is it that something so monumental as Jesus rising from the dead and canceling the curse of sin for humankind would be a footnote to Easter eggs, springtime, and opening day for the Royals?
This is the world we live in.
I intentionally said the same thing to Jesus followers as I did to those who I thought might not be aware, so I could tell them why—Because Jesus rose from the dead, so we too can live beyond this life.
How will you tell the story?
I don’t think there is just one way. I do believe we need to find a way. It could be in a text, a greeting at the mailbox, during a coffee break at work, a card, a phone call, or a word to the waiter at a restaurant.
By the way, the last one went rather well for me when the waitress, Kat, said, “I know it’s Easter, and by the way, thanks for praying for me; it’s working, my blood pressure is down.” Then she pointed up as a thank you to God.
Do you find ways to talk about Jesus in everyday life?
How will the world hear if you don’t speak up? They don’t think of Sunday as a day to go to church. They think about it as a day to sleep in.
They’re not thinking about a resurrection unless you tell them.
I often say, everyone should hear the Good News from a friend, not from a pastor they don’t know or social media they will ignore.
Is there someone you could tell before Sunday?
At Love KC, we’re here to support you as you live on-mission where you live, learn, work and play. We’ll help you live your faith with confidence and know what to say to your friends to point them to Jesus.
We are 15 neighborhoods short of 3,000 adopted by a Light, who lives a pray, care, and share lifestyle to reach their circle of influence. You can join in by using Blesseveryhome.com. By the way, the app is now available on Google Play and Apple IOS.
Will you join in?
I genuinely believe we could pray for every person in Kansas City by name if each of us became a Light.
I regularly hear from people that they find praying for 5 persons a day doable. Now you can add in co-workers, family and friends to the neighborhood list. You can even set a daily reminder that prompts you to pray at your chosen time of day.
We don’t suffer from a lack of technology that makes it easy. We lack conviction that we can make a difference.
Telling the resurrection story isn’t on the pastor, the church, or TV producers—it’s up to us.
Let’s join the behavior of the first disciples who said at the risk of imprisonment, “We can’t stop speaking of what we’ve seen and heard!”
He is risen!
